Trust, Commit, Rest - Paulo Sergio
While I was playing for the Corinthians team in Sao Paulo, Brazil, one of my teammates kept inviting me to these meetings. One day I went to this meeting and God spoke to my heart in strong way. I decided to get involved with the group so I could know more about God. Shortly after this, I gave my life to Him. I became a follower of Christ.
One thing that has changed in my life, after coming to know Christ, has been my marriage. I was a person who loved the nightlife; I loved to party and be with women. But after giving my life to Him, God did something in my heart and I stopped doing all these things — these sins. When I was done with these things, I began the process of rebuilding my marriage.
There is a verse in the Bible that I think is wonderful and it’s Psalm 37:5, which says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this:” But there are three important verses in this psalm and they are verses three, five and seven. Verse three begins with “trust,” verse five starts with “commit,” and verse seven starts with “rest.” Trust, commit and rest are three basic factors to succeed in life.
Trust in whom? When you go onto an airplane, you don’t see the pilot, but you enter for a twelve-hour plane ride, trusting he will take you there safely. You trust, commit and even rest — and some even snore! You’re trusting someone you don’t know. But with Jesus, it’s very different. If we trust, commit and rest in Him, we know we will succeed in all we do.
