A Different Passion - Adelene Wee

As a young adult, when I was really pursuing my dream, God never featured in my sport, or in my life. I was a nominal Christ-follower, my family came from this background and I would attend church with them. But I was just focused on pursuing my dream, bring the best I could be, dreaming of being a world champ.

That all changed when I reached my dream and achieved the title of “World Champion.” Everything fell apart for me after because, what else was there to dream for? What else could be better or bigger than being a world champion? I had achieved my dreams and realized it brought a lot of satisfaction, and accolades along with it, but there was a sense of “what am I here for?” WIth that began my search.

Something was missing.

I knew of Jesus Christ, but I didn’t know of Him as a personal Savior. I never knew about having an intimate relationship with Him. I never knew you could read the Bible and have it come alive! I never knew any of this.

I’m thankful for my friend, who introduced me to Jesus Christ as my personal Savior — as a friend, someone you could talk to and share your troubles with, or even to share your day with. I started reading the Bible, so hungry for everything that was written inside of it. I gobbled it up! And found myself astonished to learn so many things I didn’t know. I could glean from the Word of God.

Today, the Word of God is still very much alive in me. I love reading the Word of God. Just like bowling was a passion of mine, not the Bible and Jesus is my passion.
